Storage Wars: Sandisk (SNDK) reports 2/3 Lockup of Next Years Production - But New Capacity is Coming Online Fast.

Thesis

Author: Freeman Lewin

Micron's quarterly sales jumping from $9.3 billion to $41.46 billion, with the three big DRAM and HBM makers reportedly sold out into next year and Samsung and SK Hynix running lean on finished inventory, suggests storage demand is being booked into long term contracts. The test will be whether storage providers continue to keep their pricing power once new capacity comes online and the chip shortage starts to chip away. The claim is falsified if contract prices soften and lead times shorten while finished inventories rebuild as new fabs ramp, meaning the market has started to forget it was ever short. Test it with vendor-level sold-out and committed-capacity disclosures, HBM and DRAM contract versus spot prices, lead times, finished-goods inventory at Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix, capacity additions by product, and the data-center share of bit shipments measured against the roughly 70% forecast.

Sandisk (SNDK) Has Signed Away Two Thirds of Next Year’s Output. Can the AI Storage Boom Keep Paying?

    Our read

Committing two-thirds of next year’s production turns anticipated AI storage demand into a measurable forward-capacity constraint. The key follow-up is whether those commitments carry firm pricing and limited cancellation rights.

Micron's Memory Boom Is Facing a New Test

    Our read

Micron provides the cross-vendor test of whether Sandisk’s lockup reflects broad memory scarcity rather than customer concentration. Its pricing, orders, lead times, and inventory should confirm or reject the same capacity-tightening mechanism.
